What is the ROCB?

The Regional Office for Capacity Building (ROCB) is responsible for implementing the operational strategy of capacity building defined by the World Customs Organization (WCO) taking into account the characteristics of the countries in the Americas.
 
The ROCB is based in Argentina since 2007 under the decision of the Tenth Regional Conference of Customs Directors General in Ciudad del Este, Paraguay, which was then passed in the Session N ° 109/110 of the Customs Cooperation Council made in Brussels, Belgium, in June of that year.

The official opening took place on November 9 in the city of Buenos Aires, Argentina, while developing the "International Conference on Combating Counterfeiting and Piracy".

The ROCB, under the supervision of the Secretary General of the WCO, is in charge, among others, the following:

  • Coordinate the activities of capacity building in the region.
  • Develop personnel within the region to support members with organizational developments.
  • Support the implementation of international standards for customs and trade as the SAFE Framework.
  • Coordinate the activities of the Regional Training Centres.
  • Identify the needs of the region.
  • Periodically report its work to the Directorate of Capacity Building and Regional Vice President.
  • Translate key documents of the WCO Secretariat to the common languages ​​of the region.
  • Liaise with other regional structures representing the interests of the region as well as the donor community and donors.
  • Attend meetings as well as relevant regional meetings on the major capacity building.
